Commonwealth Studios

Commonwealth Studios will be a full service motion picture and television sound stage rental lot comprised of 14 sound stages, support buildings, production offices and over 1200 acres of open range, catering to independent production companies that want to shoot in the Los Angeles area.   By providing both interior and exterior facilities at the same location, productions will have the one-stop ability to shoot in a more efficient and effective manner, thereby keeping production costs down.  This makes our Simi Valley location so very attractive.  Located within the 30-mile Studio Zone, we are close to the center of Hollywood but a world away in cost savings.

Beginning with 4 sound stages (2-8,000 sq. ft. and 2-12,000 sq. ft.)  that will be available within a few short months directly across the 118 freeway from the Movie Ranch and accessed by its own overpass, the lot will continue to grow by adding an additional 10 sound stages over the next 2 years.

Commonwealth Studios will also reflect the current focus of many Hollywood producers by utilizing "green" technology to reduce its carbon footprint and to become a leader in the film industry for the next generation.  The use of solar panels to generate a large portion of the electricity, a unique water re-utlization project, the use of electric vehicles on grounds and a unique building formation are just a few of the ways that Commonwealth will try to lead by example.

Commonwealth Studios is the vision of two Hollywood veterans, Bernard Weitzman and John Marshall.  Bernie Weitzman's career covers the entire field of motion pictures and television starting at CBS-TV network and then on to major movie studios such as MGM, Paramount, Universal Studios and production companies like Desilu Productions and Lorimar Productions.  As a longtime member of the Art Directors' Guild, John Marshall has been an independent Production Designer and Supervising Art Director for motion pictures and television for over 25 years.

As the cornerstone of the Simi Valley Media Zone, Commonwealth Studios is dedicated to maintaining the traditions that made Hollywood and its industry the world leader that it is today for generations to come.
